Do you have a favourite work of art? If so, what is it?  Why do you like it?

El buey desollado - Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre

I am going to talk about a particular work of art. The skinned ox by the Dutch painter Rembrandt.

Painting is one of the most outstanding in Dutchman's career, for touching on themes such as everyday life and the fragility of life. Also in the crudeness of the image for brazenly showing the carcass of the skinned ox. However, when you get close to the oil you will not see the strands of flesh nor the spilled blood, only accidental stains.

The stain is a pictorial technique. Used and displayed by the painter Rembrandt. Making your personal stamp.

The magic of the stain occurs when you look at the painting from afar, seeing something recognizable in it, be it the face of a beautiful woman or the leg of an ox. However, when you look at it up close, they are nothing more or less than accidental stains. As if someone brought a cream pie and dropped it on the canvas. Remaining an image almost by accident.

The freedom of the stain to express its chaos on the canvas, combined with a form recognizable to the viewer, is a technique that I personally consider to be the most beautiful thing in the arts.
